Number One With a Bullet, Baby!

We came. We saw. We kicked asssssk me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.
Hey everybody. SpaceTrucker here. I got drafted into writing this blog edition because our team captain, Sandy had to go off and do her Magnum P.I. thing and was unavailable for trivia.
We only had three to show up. Myself, Owen, and Big Mike.
Right off the bat, we lost the first question which was "What color is Grover on Sesame Street? We had no fraking idea, so we went with brown because either Owen or Mike thought that Grover lived in a garbage can and would be brown from all the filth. WRONG!
But from there on up we kicked butt and didn't bother taking names.
At half time the 5 questions were movie quotes which the host read out and we had to name the movie it came from.
We got all of them.
Do you know which movie this is from?
...three four, better lock your door... five six, grab your crucifix...
We sailed on up in the number one position all the way to the final 20 point question.
By then my brain was pickled from the big ass margarita I was nursing the whole time, but the question was something like this: "If you wanted to visit the ruins of Troy, what modern day country would you have to go to?"
Owen and I both said it was Greece, but Mike insisted it was Turkey. We debated it, as usual, up until the last micro second before we had to hand it in.
We went for broke and bid all 20 points, and Mike was right. Good thing he was there.
We sailed away with another numero uno win for the Rejects!
Here is a bonus question for you:
Look on a world map. Do you think that if Iraq were to invade Turkey from the rear, would Greece help?
Hope you have a good day and and if you ever decide you want to get a shiny red butt in trivia, go up against Romero's Rejects. Yeah. I said it! ;-)

March 6, 2012

Tonights team is:  Steve, Owen, Justin, Amoreena, Tru and myself.  Mike is out enjoying some family time.  We started Round 1 with "What is dramamine used for"?  I always love the easy question first.  We moved thru the first 3 rounds with only missing a 2 point question.  The half time question was top 5 hits.  As we all know the number one for weeks has been:  Set Fire to the Rain by Adele.  For those of you who haven't heard it, I will offer you a chance here:  http://youtu.be/xBcMKwbMEcQ
Follow that with Stronger, We are Young, Part of me, and I can't remember the last one.
By half time we were tied for 2nd place with the Tigers in the lead by 2 points.  See how important  those 2 little points are?
Rapid round 4 was a perfect score. Loved the question of "what is the roman numeral for 400"?
Rapid round 5 we remain strong with knowing "What a conchologists is"  I so love the sea shells in Flordia!
For our final question of the night and our hope to gain some ground, It was in US Geography to which we bid the 20 point max and correctly answered the question with Alaska.
This earned us the win for 1st place and a Victory celebration.  Oh yeah and the money for 1st place as well.  So it was a Wonderful night!

Final scores were:  Romero's Rejects (94)
                               A Team (93)
                               Clemson Tigers (89)

February 28, 2012

Tonight we had most of our players.  Steve, Mike, Owen, Justin, Amoreena, Tru and Myself.  We started the game off doing good in the first 2 rounds.  I did enjoy getting the channel correct that shows this Series

Round 3 we didn't do as well on.  The chemistry question was worded wrong to get the answer they came up with.  However, as the rules state: "If I right or if I'm wrong, I'm always right" that meaning the host.  So we missed that question.  We felt the correct answer was this: The Atomic Number found here.  http://www.colorado.edu/physics/2000/periodic_table/atomic_number.html  Now I just now looked this up in order to share it with you.  We have all our phone put away during the entire game as not to have anyone ever think we cheat.  Don't even get me started on teams that cheat over something this simple!

Half time was all about Heat.  In which the guys worked through the answers on the famous napkin process and we got 3 out of 5 correct.

Rapid rounds 4 & 5 we scored a perfect 18 points on each of those.  That left us with the Science Category for the Final Question of the night.  The answer was in fact: DNA which we all knew.  Tonight we didn't place in the winning circle.  I think it was due to a mistake in the math, yet it didn't seem enough for us to call them on it.  I think there was another team tied with us too.  The A Team took first place with a 98 point win, The Pacers in 2nd with having lost the tie breaker to the A team.  3rd place went to Air force 5 with 94 points.

After the game tonight, I paid out our past winnings so that I don't have to keep track of who is due what money.  I don't even balance my own check book, so thought this was easier.  So far each trivia night, if we win, I plan to just spilt it all up right then and pay cash and I'll keep the certificate and use it the next time.  It's not like I won't get to use it the next week.  Hope this new system is understood.

I would like to Thank Justin for offering to let me keep the change for the time I take with the blog.  It made me smile to know that someone actually reads it :)

So for everyone on our team and anyone wishing to join us

February 9, 2012

We didn't make our regular Tuesday night trivia this week, so when I finished working tonight Steve met me at Las Trojas and we played.  Things went pretty good for the first 3 rounds with us only missing the 2 point question on each.  Then the half time question set us back.  We had to name the artist or group for the following:

1.  Let's get it started
2.  American Idiot
3.  Heaven
4.  Yeah
5.  Here we go again

How well can you do without looking these up? I'll give you a little help.  #1 is Blackeyed Peas and #5 is Ray Charles.
Post a commit if you know the others.

I enjoyed Rapid round 4 the most, as it had Comic Book Hero's and Names for Categories.  In Comics, how often does the Green Lantern have to charge his ring?
That answer would be every 24 hours.  The best place I found to do some research on the Green Lantern is this site:  http://glcorps.dcuguide.com/rings.php
Under Names was the Space Shuttle in 1978.  Before I even had time to think about it, Steve told me the answer and history.  So here is a little something for all those Star Trek fans out there who did their part in 1978.

"Enterprise, the first Space Shuttle Orbiter, was originally to be named Constitution (in honor of the U.S. Constitution's Bicentennial). However, viewers of the science fiction television series Star Trek started a write-in campaign urging the White House to rename the vehicle to Enterprise. Designated, OV-101, the vehicle was rolled out of Rockwell's Air Force Plant 42, Site 1 Palmdale California assembly facility on Sept. 17, 1976. On Jan. 31, 1977, it was transported 36 miles overland from Rockwell's assembly facility to NASA's Dryden Flight Research Facility at Edwards Air Force Base for the approach and landing test program.  "

Then it's on to the Final Question, which sadly we missed and it was in the food category!  Oh well.  We had fun and even though we didn't get to win at the last, it was worth the fun playing.  Our winning team tonight was Holy Frijoles (and yes, I had them write it down)  They took 1st place with these team members:  Michelle, Andrew, Dave, Kerry and David.  I thought there was one more, however I must be mistaken.

Congrats to them, as they had to beat out the largest group of teams in Las Trojas history to play in one night!  There were a total of 26 teams competing and some of them very large teams.

Well that brings us all up to date, as we haven't played since this date.  That was due to schedules and Valentine's day being this month.  I do however expect to see us all back together tonight and having a good time.  See you all soon.

January 31, 2012

On our team tonight is:  Steve, Bill, Owen, Mike, Justin, Amoreena and myself.

We started the game off by not knowing the 4 point question in Heavy Metal.  After all, who ever heard of Slipknot?  At least in the next round they had good questions such as, "who plays the part of Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory?"  That is only like one of the best shows to make you laugh, so of course we know Jim Parsons.  I didn't know that he is only 2 years younger than myself.  His stage make up is really good!

Next we were on to books, Can you name The Millennium-trilogy? It consist of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played With Fire", and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest".  After having seen the movie released this last year, It wasn't to hard to know this one.  BTW...Please look up and read the IMDB before watching movies like this one.  I'm still wishing I had done so before watching it.

We only missed 1 of the 5 part half time question.  We were all feeling pretty good about our placement in the rapid rounds.  We hung in there with scoring 15 points on each of those 2 rounds.  Then it was time for that Final Question of the night.  You all know the one I'm talking about.  It's what makes or breaks the teams!  Tonight's question was about when the White House burned down.  Now I know that I should know my history, however I was surprised to even know that it ever had.  So far those of you who don't know anything about it, here is a good place to start:  http://www.answers.com/topic/when-did-the-white-house-burn-down   Needless to say, the other team members knew the answer and we advanced into a 2nd place win!
There was a tie for 3rd place tonight between the Cyber Squad and the Clemson Tigers.  So the tie breaker question went out and wouldn't you know it, both teams were correct.  So it was a double tie break with the Cyber Squad pulling off the lead for 3rd place.  Tonight's 1st place team was the "Wildly Inappropriate's" who had a 5 point lead over us.  So that gives each of tonight's players $2.85 each credit.  When we get together the next game, I'm going to do a pay out and then from here on, I'll bring cash with me to just split up the money we win the same night.  It's to confusing for me to keep track of it this way.  BTW, I remember that this new way of keeping track was my idea, so don't rub it in...LOL.
